Against the ever growing threat of industrial smog in the air, humanity, rather than cleaning the atmosphere, people walled themselved off in fully contained metropolises. Major cities, all interconnected with tunnels of rock and steel, house a thriving oligarcical upper class, as well as the overpopulated poor. One of the most dangerous, and least coveted job is working in construction, because building new structured required venturing out into the haze zone. Construction workers don orange uniform that are equipped with masks to help keep out the haze. These workers, however, still suffer from the oppressive smog, nonetheless, and are doomed to have shorter lifespans and health issues abound.
Plants have become more valuable than gold as crops wither away in the sunless landscape. Vegetable-heavy diets are reserved for the elite, where the poorer in society eat nutrient dense yet tasteless meals.
This zine follows Emy,an outdoor welder through her life within the bounds of the city. How do the opressive walls of a caged-in city effect her psyche? And, how will her work in the haze zone ultimately wear down on her strong will?
