This is one of the only works that I have both designed and written. It came about after I became totally enraptured with doing online crossword puzzles in class (apologies to my lecturers). I came across an article about the accessibility of crossword puzzles to non-American audiences, and I then became swept up in how crossword puzzles intersect both newspapers and the idea of what counts as common knowledge. My piece explores the complicated relationship that crossword puzzles have with underrepresented individuals or overlooked groups, and I illustrate this concept with the visual motif of hidden and visible information. I also use the box as a motif throughout the piece, as well especially pertaining to what fits and does not fit within a box. This piece means a lot to me, and I truly hope that you enjoy it.
